Random Notes on PiDP-11 Hardware/Software

This is just a collection of things that I’ve noticed, fought with, or things I wish I had known:

• Start with a clean Raspbian system, GUI enabled, auto-login
• Do NOT press the LED aligner on tightly; you WILL need to take it off, multiple times
• On the default RSX-11M-Plus system, DU1:[KITS] contains tape images of various kits, including the base kit and DECNet.
• If the boot.ini file includes “attach dz <number>” <number> is a port number that you can telnet to and get a terminal attached to the system.

Having waited way too long to document the process, I can no longer remember how I copied the distribution tape to disk. I can boot the boot able bru tape, but can’t copy the distribution tape. Luckily, I saved a copy or the RD54 disk image after the copy and before booting. The following procedure starts there.

• attach du0: newdisk.dsk
